Best known for its involvement in the 1952 T2 Tanker SS Pendleton rescue, which was one of the most daring in Coast Guard history. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. Now a Museum Boat in Orleans, MA.

“WOMEN AT SEA”

In late 1977, the first Coast Guard women were assigned to sea duty as crew members aboard USCGC GALLATIN (WHEC-721) and USCGC MORGENTHAU (WHEC-722). Ten enlisted women and two female officers were assigned to each.
