87' Marine Protector-class Patrol Boats

87’ MARINE PROTECTOR-CLASS PATROL BOATS———————————————————————

The 87’ Marine Protector-class Patrol Boats were developed with a hull based upon the Stan 2600 design by the Netherlands-based company, Damen Group. They were meant to replace the 82’ Point-class Patrol Boats that had been in service since 1960. The Marine Protector-class Patrol Boats were uniquely designed with stern launching ramps, outfitted with a vastly improved Rigid-Hull Inflatable Boats (RHIB), and accommodations for mixed-gender crews that can berth 10 to 12 personnel.

In 1999, the Coast Guard ordered 50 Marine Protector-class Patrol Boats, all of which were built in Lockport, LA, and delivered by 2002. Eventually, that number increased to 77 hulls, the last of which, USCGC SEA FOX (WPB-87374), was commissioned in 2009. The last 82’ Point-class Patrol Boat in service, USCGC POINT BROWER (WPB-82372), was decommissioned in 2003.

By 2020, the Marine Protector-class Patrol Boats were begining to be decommissioned and replaced by the 154’ Sentinel-class cutters. Several have been transferred to foreign Coast Guards and Navies.
