Coast Guard Academy
The Coast Guard Academy is an elite, tuition-free federal service academy that develops future officers through a rigorous 4-year Bachelor of Science program. Founded in 1876 and located in New London, CT, it is the smallest of the five federal service academies. The Academy emphasizes leadership, character, and academics, with graduates commissioning as Ensigns for a 5-year active-duty service commitment. Majors at the Academy are offered in engineering (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Naval Architecture),
Cyber Systems, Management, Government, and Marine/Environmental Science. Its academic programs are accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education.
The Academy’s motto is Scientiæ Cedit Mare, Latin for "The Sea of Knowledge Gives Way." Cadets are required to adhere to the Academy's "Honor Concept," "Who lives here reveres honor, honors duty,"
which is inscribed in the walls of the Academy's entrance.
