GROUPS & MARINE SAFETY OFFICES (MSO)
◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆
Coast Guard Group/Marine Safety Offices (MSOs) were pre-2005 shore-based units that managed operational missions, including maritime safety, security, and environmental protection. As such, they often acted as integrated command centers that allowed for flexibility in combining operational missions under one command structure. Group/MSOs enforced federal laws & regulations related to vessel safety, port facilities and the marine environment. Beginning in 2005, they merged into “Sectors” to improve efficiency, unify command structure, and consolidate authority.
