418' Legend-class Cutters
418’ LEGEND-CLASS CUTTERS
(NATIONAL SECURITY CUTTERS)
(maritime security cutters, Large)———————————————————————
The 418’ Legend-class cutter, also known as the National Security Cutter (NSC) and Maritime Security Cutter - Large, is the Coast Guard’s largest and most technologically advanced patrol cutter class. Entering into active service in 2008, the Legend-class is the largest of several cutter designs developed as part of the Integrated Deepwater System Program. These ships are the second-longest of all Coast Guard cutters, behind the USCGC HEALY (WAGB-20), and replaced the twelve 378’ Hamilton-class cutters. The Legend-class cutter is the centerpiece of the Coast Guard’s fleet, capable of executing the most challenging operations, including supporting maritime homeland security and defense missions.
