SECRETARIAL———————————————————————

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is the federal executive department responsible for public security with its missions involving anti-terroism, border control, transportation security, immigration & customs enforcement, maritime security and search & rescue, cyber security, and civil defense. It is the third largest cabinet department, behind the Department of Defense and the Department of Veterans Affairs, with more than 250,000 employees.

DHS was conceived in direct response to the 9/11 terrorists attacks and formed as a result of the Homeland Security Act of 2002, along with the White House Homeland Security Council.
The United States Coast Guard is one of 22 federal agencies that were incorporated into DHS,
which formally began operations on 1 March 2003.
