Acting as regional hubs, Bases maintain personnel and provide medical/dental, housing, MWR, galley services,. They also serve as platforms and provide support for maritime safety, security, ATON, and search & rescue missions.

CAPT Earl R. Fox, upon his retirement in November 1999, was the last active American service member who served during World War II. At age 55, he completed helicopter training and became a flight
surgeon. CAPT Fox passed away in 2012 on his 93rd birthday.
